i have some buttermilk and the date is 4/30 and it's been opened. i can't tell by smell if it's soured or not because it normally has a bit of a sour smell. it's not clumpy at all. any ideas on how to tell if it's good???

I would probably not take the chance and throw it out?? I wouldn't know how to tell if it is good or not?? Just my thought???
I don't know if this is too late, but because of buttermilk's natural acidity it has a very long shelf life, if left too long it can grow mold on the inner walls of the container but it is the same harmless mold that grows on cheese. If its not chunky its fine hth
i ended up just using milk. i hope that it's okay; it was a chocolate cake batter. i think it may have been fine but just wasn't sure.

you can always make your own sour milk by adding a tbsp of vinegar or lemon juice per 1 cup of milk, for next time!
Apparently as long as it's not clumpy it's fine. You can always freeze it if you have left over stuff.
