I have never made a marble cake, can I just use my scratch chocolate cake recipe and marble it with a vanilla box recipe? Or is there a specific recipe that should be used?

Does it matter if I mix a box and scratch recipe??

Thanks!

You can try it but I am not sure how it will impact the consistency of the texture of the over all cake.

If you are making a cake from scratch it;s probably just as easy to just make it all from scratch. If I Was in your situation I would keep it as simple as possible. Make my yellow cake and reserve some of the batter to add my chocolate to. Pour the yellow batter in to the pan then add the chocolate batter and use a knife to create the marble effect. Be careful not to scrape the bottom or the sides of the pan.

You can also do a marble cake by dividing up your cake batter then adding food coloring to the various bowls. Add the colored batter to your pan and use a knife to create the marble pattern. This is a rainbow marble. Kids tend to like this.
