I have some experience with FBCT and I always tint some BC for the outlines, but I now have one to do which is primarilly black. Can I use the black tube icing for this or will it stick to the cellophane?

Also, all of you have convinced me I need to purchase Americolor for black, red, ect... One question first...Do they hold true to the color you make, or do they deepen as they set? With Wilton that is nice for black, and red, however it is annoying when you want one color and end up with a different one.

Americolor also deepens as it sets but I've never been disappointed with any of the colors. Just stop a few shades lighter than the color you're trying to achieve.

I don't know about using the tube icing for a BCT. My thought is that it is so stiff and might become too brittle. Maybe someone who's tried it will let us know. I've heard the fudge icing in the tub works great for outlining though.

I use the black tube icing. I empty the icing out of it then I add a little piping gel to the icing. Then I put a little into a parchment bag. I use a small bag because that lets me have control of the bag more. That's all I do. I have done several FBCT & it has worked everytime.

Thanks for the info everyone! I think I will try a small one and see what I think before I attempt a large. I will post my results. I am off to get supplies...

Don't laugh at me but a few weeks ago I needed black and was going to try the tube black icing from the store. DH went to the store and he came back with the black gel icing. I was just practicing so I decided to give it a whirl and see what happened. Word to the wise gel icing does not freeze and it runs terrible into your BC when you try to freeze it. I had the ultimate mess of a BCT when I finished. It went into the trash. Oh well I guess experience is the best teacher. I still have so much to learn!
