Unreal. People just don't know how much time and effort goes into a cake. It's surprises me though, because even the most "inexperienced, annual, canned frosting, cupcake mom" will tell you how long it takes!! So, why do they think we can just pop things out?

I *sniff, sniff* was a band booster *hear the violins?* for 12 LONG YEARS! (4 kids through the program) I graduated with my last 2 kids this past year *can you hear pomp & circumstance?*

I did my share of baking, organizing, bingo, you name it, I was probably knee deep in it!

Lucky for me, another mom that decorates cakes came and "stole" my "business" by handing out samples and volunteering free cakes! I really think she did me a huge favor!!!!! Funny thing is, now that we're both done (her boy graduated too) they call me for cakes (paid for, of course) and not her!!! Too Funny!

24 hours in a day, minus 8 hours for work, minus 2 hours travel time, minus 4 hours for making dinner and clean up, that leaves what, 10 hours to bake cheesecake....hmmm, if you don't sleep for 3 days you might be able to pull it off! LOL icon_lol.gificon_eek.gificon_lol.gif

so who is interested in a cheesecake throwdown?

Wonder if we can get enough of us, maybe the Food Network would be interested.

Suggestion for THROWDOWN Prize:

Another forum post was throwing about the idea of having Hugh Jackman over for a massage? Brad Pitt too? I say you throw in George Clooney and we've got a WINNER!

What do ya think? icon_wink.gif

" I could enter this cheesecake contest. I'm in Ontario, Canada but am willing to travel to meet cake people. I won't eat it but apparently I make them so good that one guy said he wasn't sure if he should eat it or roll around naked in it. (It was triple chocolate.) "

Quick lorrieg, tell me that recipe so I can start handing out cheesecakes to good looking guys ( might get lucky !!! ) icon_wink.gif

Michigan is in the middle, how about here?!

If you folks are really serious about this, I'll betcha Food Network would send Bobby Flay as a judge...or maybe even as a contestant!

Any opinions?

Yeah, but then you wind up baking and decorating in your sleep and doing strange things! lol (only because "we're on the subject" re: lack of sleep: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1052953) That's what happens when you pull an all weekender!

A cheesecake throw down would be GREAT!!! Texas is big enough for all of the CCer's! Bobby FLay could be the judge (it would be more fun to have him throw a cheesecake in and see how many ccer's beat his out!!!) icon_biggrin.gif I would love to try the triple chocolate one (from Canada)! Can you share the recipe? Maybe I could win a great man icon_rolleyes.gif Probably not though!
In this contest, are we using different flavors or New York style or either? I prefer the flavored ones! White choco raspeberry, key lime, almond praline! Yum
I do agree 30 in a few days is ridiculous! So they won't honor you as band mom of the year! Atleast you still have your sanity (if you do after being a teacher all day icon_lol.gif ).
I am proud of you for saying no!!!!

Oh no. Is this what I have to look forward to? icon_confused.gif

My son started preschool two weeks ago. At the first-day "parent social," I made the mistake of telling the director that I do some cakes and to let me know if I can help out. (I'm just a hobbyist, so I have the luxury of doing this. It's a school for special-needs kids and they raise a lot of money for various things, so it's a good cause. I've also done birthday treats for kids whose parents don't have the resourses, etc., to do so ...)

Her eyes lit up, and she immediately pointed to one particular sign-up sheet ... for the STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON. icon_eek.gif

I'm flattered, but it wasn't really what I had in mind. icon_razz.gif Oh, well. It's a good cause in its own right ... and I'm going to be doing something for their big charity auction, too.

I am, I am! Before I came to CC my on-line name was Cheesecake Lady - and for good reason. I have two recipes that have been published in International cookbooks icon_biggrin.gif granted, I submitted them - no taste test required for publication icon_wink.gif

The response to my cheesecakes was so grand that I was trying to open a cheesecake and truffle store. The competition with Costco and Sams offering Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes for pennys put that idea out of my head. So, a few months ago I found this website and started to expand my horizons with cake, cupcakes and cookies. Thinking I could get the kid's in my kindergartener's class. That got squashed with the "NO cake/cupcake/sugar..."thing in schools for our state.

So my long winded answer icon_surprised.gif is.. I'm in for the throwdown too! thumbs_up.gif

As for the band fundraiser - you did your share! I'm so glad you stuck to your guns! You are a good Band mom. If they need another fundraiser during the year you could suggest a cheesecake sale where either 1) you take orders and they prepay or 2) you make them in your spare time and freeze them for the day of the event.
