Any pictures with instructions... Google no help at all! Want something better than a simple palette (want to impress) but not too complicated!

You could just do a square cake and splatter different color icings all over it!

You could try to replicate famous/favorite works of art or one of the artist's work of art. Or maybe something with your local art museum (we have a VERY recognizable sculpture at our art museum).

This is one of an unfinished one that I did some time back...when it was complete...I had a ribbon around the sides and transfered to a nicer covered board.

I have a color wheel in my photos that you might get inspiration from. Mine was done many years ago when I was just starting out, but I'm sure you would not have a hard time improving on the style.

I too did one for an artist. It is kind of like one already shown but a little different.

Not at all. We all share ideas around here. I take it as a compliment. PM me if you need any help. It was a really fun cake to make. Just plan it out so the gumpaste has time to dry.

I use fondant (no idea what gumpaste is) we don't get anything else here! Whihc limits me to rather a lot... but oh well. Thanks- If I get stuck I'll pester you!

Fondant will work fine too, so go for it. Let us see pictures when you get done.
