When I did a search for New Jersey in the decorating business forum, there is a list of states that license home bakeries.

It indicates that NJ does not. You probably need to call the Health Department to ask about home baking-

I'm in the same boat as your are. I checked the County website, hardly found anything informative. Called the Environmental Health Office, they weren't picking up their phone calls, assuming due to the e. coli breakout. Got nowhere fast. Good luck, perhaps you'll find more of it than I did. All I wanted was to get my cakes into a business establishment for friends and family.

I am also very new to the cake decorating world and have really been struggling trying to find licensing requirements, etc... for the state of Wisconsin. I have been leaving messages for about 2 months and today I finally got a phone call back. I have been told that I need to contact the health inspector from the county that I live in. A few people that I have spoke with have told me to rent a commercial kitchen on the weekends from the American Legion, a church, etc... That doesn't appeal to me at all. I want to have my own kitchen at home with my own stuff. It seems that most of the decorators in the area are not licensed and don't have a separate kitchen in their homes. I'm scared to get caught without a license and commercial grade kitchen but I'm not finding the answers that I need and I have already been asked to do a few jobs which I hate to pass up.

Looking for any advice you can give me.

You can go to www.ices.org and can find information or make questions. This website is for bakers only. I hope it can help you.
