Help, I plan to cover my cake in fondant, and I just took the layers out of the oven and when I took them out of their pans, a chunk came out of each layer. I now realize that there wasn't enough crisco/flour (how elementary), but the damage is done. Can I still use these layers to cover in fondant? Thanks so much

I depends on how big the chunks are. You can just fill small holes with icing, then cover with fondant. If the chunks are large, (and the cake is just for you) you can glue the chunks back in, then cover.

If this is for a customer, and the chunks are large, you should probably start over. The cut cake will reveal the patches.

Thanks JoAnn,

I knew that would be the answer. If it were for me, I would have tried all kinds of repairs. Although, the cake is not for sale, I'm taking it to my daughter's house and I would like it to look as nice as I can make it. Cake #2 is in the oven.

Thanks,
Cassie
