Is it possible to send a decorated cake through the mail....I live in North Dakota and I've had request to send a cake across the country. Is it possible and how much would you charge??

It is possible, although I've never done it..But Sylvia Weinstock does it all the time, thru UPS.. and she ships huge wedding cakes.. I would think, put styrofoam all around it, w/out touching the cake.. make sure you mark w/c side should be up. icon_smile.gif

I was thinking about doing the same thing. VeryVera does it. She charges about $45.00 for the cake itself. I'm not sure how much shipping is. I was going to order a cake to see how it is shipped.

Her website is www.veryvera.com

There is no guarantee that it won't be overturned or dropped. the big-time decorators charge for them to be accompanied by a decorator on the plane.

You can ask the shipper, but I am pretty sure they can't offer a guarantee. Small cakes with a covering that can be covered tightly with plastic wrap would do fairly well, and of course cakes with no icing.
