Need to know if anyone else has had this problem?
I made the No Fail recipe, rolled out the dough and left it to chill overnight. Yesterday I baked the cookies and they came out with dark speckles on the bottom and baked up a little darker at the same amount of time as I baked them before (about 10 mintues).
I made the same recipe for Easter but did not leave it overnight but for an hour or two to chill and they came out the way they should, bright and barely brown on the bottom.
Has anyone else had this happen after chilling overnight?

Don't feel that you're being ignored, I think you just stumped everyone. I haven't noticed anything like that but I bake my cookies as soon as I mix them. Maybe someone else will have information for you. Good luck!

I actually had this happen yesterday! lol For the first time....but I, too, usually mix the dough, roll, freeze, cut, freeze, bake...all on the same day. I made some cookies last week for Easter gifts for DS's kindergarten class and had some dough leftover. I went ahead and rolled it out and froze it. When I baked a few for the kids yesterday, they had the spots on the bottom and browned much more quickly than when I bake on the same day I make the dough. Not sure why...but I'm wondering if maybe it has something to do with the butter? Maybe Antonia74 will see this and have some insight for us.

JennT thanks glad to know that I am not alone, the problem is that I did not use butter I used Margarine, I'm thinking it may be the baking powder.
Still looking for an answer from anyone who can shed some light.

I am bumping this back up because I have some orders for Mother Day, and I am still wondering if anyone has found out why this happens.
I made some cookies for samples for Mother's Day and after the dough was in the fridge for the short time that I was baking the same thing happened.
Please help, I really like my cookies to look as though they are not even cooked and these speckles are giving me the Blues (browns).
Any help or suggestions would be grealty appreciated.
Did we ever find out anything on this topic? My last batch of NoFails came out with the speckled spots as well. I was offered a chance to make cookies for a woman who is starting a business and I'm very worried about the spots coming again. I do not freeze my dough overnight; just a few minutes to firm up.

Sorry, don't have an answer. But did want to say I left my NFSC dough in the fridge for a couple days before baking and did NOT have this problem. Not much help, I know...Jodie
I've had this happen too. In fact just yesterday. It doesn't really bother me though. You're right, it probably doesn't really look that good. I think it is the butter burning. It kinda makes sense when you think about it. When you chill your dough (or put it in the freezer) the pieces of butter clump together again (if the dough is at room temp then the butter remains soft or distributed - does this make sense???). So, when we bake the cookies, the pieces of butter burn and hence make the brown spots. What do you think??? Is this it??? I am going to make a batch and bake them right away (you know you can roll out and cut out without chilling with no fails - it is just a little more difficult). I really have only had the spots when I have frozen the dough and then baked.

I don't think so.
The butter is already mixed in. If it's separate enough to brown, you're not mixing your dough well enough.

Interesting... I noticed this for the first time last week... and I ran out of Clabber Girl and had to use another brand.

Could there be some type of residue on your baking tray and it is burning and causing brown spots on your cookies?

I use parchment paper or a silpat mat and have had the spots occur with both. I don't really think it's the butter burning since it doesn't happen with other cookie dough that gets refridgerated/frozen. The baking powder could be an interesting lead. I bought generic baking powder last time. Hmmmm....wonder if I should ask Sarah Phillips?
