my 9in 3 layer red velvet cake is finished i used the crusted cream cheese icing... My cake came out lopsided . ...... not sure what i should do... should i cancell the order should i rebake the cake ( which i have done already )? Should i just give her the cake? waiting for the cake to crust for i can try the viva technique
i added more icing it looks better.....I will not keep the little pikes just playing with the icing..................
the customer was happy with the cake.....She said hubby could not wait to eat it.......
thanks for your help
Did you level the cake before you iced it? You could wipe the icing off the top & level it & then re-ice & that should solve the lopsidedness.
BellaRosa
Do you know how to level a cake?????? In this case...just take a long bladed knive and while looking at the cake from a side view~ cut off the hump so it is totally flat on the top. You'll have to use a substantial abount of icing to keep crumbs from getting into the top re-iced part. You might even consider making the top "swirly" instead of smooth. I have a heart cake in my gallery that is swirling on the top if you want to look. It's pretty forgiving! Best of luck to you!
you know, since you already did crumb coating, finish frosting the whole cake and just hide that side with decorations, like flowers cascading and all that .. no one will notice it.
The swirly icing idea is good. I do that a lot. Makes it look like you meant to make it fluffy. You can use more icing and maybe thin it just a bit so you can swirl it easier and use your spatuala to make pretty lifts. And the cascading flowers was a great idea also! This can be a very pretty cake still!
the cake is for a guys who is turning 29 . I am adding walnuts on top, do u think i should add a border at the bottom?
I would level that top layer. Leave the cake assembled and just level off that top layer and then ice the top again. Still put the walnuts on top and I would use a border too.
trent, it looks much better to me. You could put the walnuts on the side and leave off the border or put the walnuts on top and use the bottom border. Either way, it does look much better.
come on guys what do u think.......
It looks a lot better now that you have added the walnuts.
Hey Trent,
The cake looks good! Glad to see the customer was happy - that's what's important and will keep them coming back for more!!!
