Did You Ever Forget A Customer Was Coming By!!!!

I can't believe it! This was my first and hopefully ONLY time doing this! I took a leisurly morning and woke up at 9:30, since there was a snowstorm last night and I knew I wasn't going anywhere today. Here I am making a nice cup of tea, shuffling around in my bathrobe and p.j.s when we hear a car pull into the driveway! "Who's that?" I ask my husband! "Are you expecting anyone?".......then it dawned on me and I yell...."IT'S MY 10:00 WEDDING CONSULTATION!!!"
I beg my husband to go downstairs and let them into my bakery and tell them I will be right there
I never ran so fast to throw myself together and look as "professional" as I could! I come huffing and puffing making my "grand entrance", only to come apon the two bags of trash that I had forgotten to put out as well as several bags of store bought items on the counters that I MEANT to get to the night before
On top of not only forgetting they were coming and somehow getting through the information and design faze of the cake, the mother of the bride looks over at her daughter and asks, "yum! What kind of cake are we trying today?!"
I FORGOT TO MAKE THEIR CAKE SAMPLES
How I ever managed to get this cake, is beyond me!!! However, I am making a special trip on Monday to deliver her cake samples and try to make up for it
Just thought I would share! Have a great day everyone!
WOW! I have nightmares about this!! I'm glad you got the order. Most people are understanding.
That is too funny. That's something I would do. I love the heart tiered cake that is in your photos where you put the fondant hearts on in pink. You said that you used buttercream icing. How did you get it sooo smooth? Did you use the Melvira Method?

I USED to have nightmares too! But now I won't lose sleep anymore, because it came true!
Sunflower, I used the hot spatula in water method. I never knew the Melvira method until reading about it a month ago Both methods work, but I must say, I like the Melvira better, when I'm patient to let the frosting dry
I have not forgot I had someone coming over yet. But now I might think about it!!
One week-end I have 3 cakes to do and 2 of them were for allergic people. On Sunday Morning very early I am preparing my last order, made the cake and as I'm doing the icing and it flops. Now I have to change the recipe and need more ingredients namely soybean less shortening (yes there is such a thing) So 9am the specialty store opens and by 9:20 I am home making the icing. Anyhow the customer shows up at 10am 2 hours early he is on his way somewhere and figured he would check on the process. I am only 1/2 way there, thank god he thinks it's really cool and he will be back. (I am sitting in my kitchen ready to cry) my intention was to have the cake done by 11:30 and I was going to clean up a lot once I got done, but when he got there, I had everything out, cake ingredients, pans pots from first icing and had just had a powder sugar explosion which I had kind of brushed aside to finish the work. You can imagine the mess in the kitchen and on me too!!) Never been so embarassed in my life. Since then I always try to make sure I am cleaning as I go and I make sure I have back up ingredients for a back up recipe! I do a lot of allergy recipes so I am usually prepared. But I tell you what Never again!
They loved the cake and his sister ended up picking up the cake on her way to the party - the house was spotless by the time she came. I was done by 11:30 as I had planed, thank goodness.
We all learn from our mistakes!
Gateaux: I'm glad that all turned out for you! And you are right, that we learn from our mistakes, but I bet somewhere inside you want that male customer to come back to pick up another cake to see your kitchen spotless and not the veiw he got after the "explosion", right

You have got that right, I have made cakes a few other time, but ended up delivering to their business. I'll get another chance soon, their older kid's b-days are coming up this summer.
What wonderful stories. I am so glad I don't do cakes for a living. The stress is unbelievable. All I can say, is you guys do such beautiful work, live through the stress and have families, too, God Bless!
Yikes!! Good recovery though. That would be a living nightmare.
I forgot to Make a cake once. My mom had asked me to make a chocolate cake for her boss' birthday for the following Friday. The Thursday night before, at around 7:30pm, she calls me up to see when she can pick it up I ended up doing a very quick, nothing fancy cake. Boy, did I move that night!
