Someone wants 100 cupcakes for her wedding (along with a 14x14 inch cake). 50 are chocolate, 50 are vanilla, and are iced plain (they are providing medival themed candies to put on top).

What would you charge per cupcake, assuming plain paper cup cake liners? Rough cost times 3 came out to be around $110, which seems a bit high for plain cupcakes.

I think most people charge around 1.00 a piece for cupcakes.......regardless of the decoration.....but since they are providing the candies.....maybe you want to go .80 cents a piece or something......it's your call, I guess I would go by what you normally charge and maybe take a little off since you certainly wouldn't be spending nearly as much time as you would if they were decorated with roses etc..........and as for the cake........I've heard that people use the 12 dollars per cake mix ........for their cost.......so if it takes 2.......24 dollars.......3.........36 dollars.....etc.

$1 each is what I would charge - I know you aren't doing lots of decoration but believe me 100 cupcakes are a lot of cupcakes to ice. Think of it this way it is $1 a serving - that is cheap wedding cakes are a lot more per serving.

Believe me!! $1.10 per cupcake is not high and those little critters take more time to do that a regular cake!!!

Definitely $1 each, at least...that's what I will be charging for them in my shop and they'll at least have sprinkles or something on top of the icing. I know they're providing you with the candies, but don't you still have to put them on the cupcakes?? $1/serving is definitely inexpensive for a wedding...lol. And although they'll be plainly iced, that's still alot of work for you to have to do at one time...then placing the candies on top. You priced it right, I think. Don't undercut yourself!! thumbs_up.gificon_wink.gif

I Agree with JennT DO NOT undercut yourself. Those things take a lot of work. $1.00 a cup cake is pretty cheap for a wedding.

Congrats on the order.

I just worked out how much it would be to make 15 cupcakes from scratch and with buttercream topping and decoration, for someone who is wanting a cake in March, and raw materials alone would be $12. so obviously charging just $1 in that case would be nuts, because defintely not worth it for $3!! I think you're being more then gererous with the price you have now, they are getting a deal You still have to bake, ice, and package 100 cupcakes, let alone what the raw cost is!

I believe $1 is a fair price for a cupcake, even $1.10 since it is a wedding and making 100 takes time, labor and materials, even if they are providing the candies...
Congrats on the order!

I wouls charge $2. a cupcakes, my starting price. I heard that since it is for a wedding you should charge what you would charge for wedding cakes because there are so many little pieces. I haven't done that though.

I am in Texas and I was thinking $2 per cupcake. I have also been asked to do 100 cupcakes for a wedding with no topping. I think I'm going to stick to $2.00.

I think I'll go be sick now. icon_cry.gif I just did 100 cc for a baby shower, 50 choc, 50 van all with piped buttercream swirls and edible glitter on top. I charged her 50 cents per cupcake... Don't laugh, I am still new at this and I went with what the local grocery store bakery charges (Since I know in the past she has gotten her cakes at Costco) Oh well, I covered my costs and got the experience of traveling 1 1/2 hours with all those cc!

Do you all really charge that much! Wow. I need to figure out my prices.

I wouldn't touch it for $1 per cupcake! What do you get per serving for cake? Cupcakes take more batter than a single serving of cake then you have to add the liner - filling each individual cup - icing each individual cup, etc. I'm working on a similar order now. I haven't come up with a price yet but I know it will be at least $2.25 per cupcake.

Here in the Northwest (Seattle) cupcakes are 2.25 - 2.50 per piece. I charge $30 per dozen for scratch cupcakes frosted w/Swiss buttercream. I agree with the previous posters that it takes work to produce even plain cupcakes, and you HAVE to factor in the labor (yours) it takes.

my hubby just got an order for 30 cupcakes and charged $1.00 each and thought it was too high....but did it anyways after he quoted ...the lady jumped on it so fast he wished he would have said more........ He keeps saying i should have charged more....

my point is go for it ......you can always come down on price if you need to but not go up

oh my gosh, I have to agree with "thecakemaker"... I wouldn't touch it for $1.00 either. I don't think it is unreasonable to charge $2 each. They really are a lot of work to ice each one. even 1.50 would be better than $1
