We finished my kitchen last weekend and the health department came out today and okayed everything and I am open for business. I am sooooooooo excited. I just have to go down to the city office tomorrow and pay the fee to get my permit and I am ready to go. I am going to try to attach pics of my kitchen. Figuring out the health department requirements, the department of revenue requirements, and the city clerk requirements has been an experience but I am finally open. WoooooHooooo!!
ok I need a full sheet cake ny the 24th and a 5 teir whimsical cake by tomorrow.. can you do it? lol CONGRATS!!!
Looks great! I saved your pics to my fav file for the time when I am able to do the same. Could you please let us know the estimate cost of your commercial kitchen? And I was just wondering what your business name is? Oh, and where did you find out all the business info needed to set up?
Sorry so many questions. . .
Congrat, toddsgirl! I can't wait for mine, as I'm waiting for a buyer to buy my house then move and establish my cake business. Is your business name "Lindsay's Layers"??
That's great! Any advice you could pass on? Anything you didn't think would be an issue? Whatever input would be great...I know all states are different, but your experience would be great to hear!
That is so awesome...it really makes it look "doable" not easy, but doable...
Enjoy being legal!!!
Congratulations!!!!!
I wanted to know if the health department asked you to set a bathroom as well.
Congrats girl!!!! I would love to have a seperate workspace....let the fun begin!

Oh, how wonderful! I am so happy for you!!!!!!!!!
How much did that all cost? Where did you get the sink? Who built if for you?
Amy
Thanks so much for all the encouragement. I will try to answer some of the questions.
It cost me around $4000 all together. Most of that was for the electrician to run the outlet for the stove and refrigerator (I already had a light switch and one outlet out there). That cost about $900. The plumber to run the pipes for the sinks cost about $750 (that was a deal because he was a friend. I had a quote from a company that was $1500. This was to run pipes literally not even six feet from my water heater so they are outrageous). My dad put up the walls, the drywall, and installed the cabinets so that only cost me materials. The three compartment sink was about $600. I bought the refrigerator at a yard sale for $50. The stove was about $400. The flooring only cost me about $45 and I installed it myself. It was super easy. And then there were little things like the coved baseboard, hand sink, flourescent light, door and threshold. It is not bad for a business investment.
The best advice I can give with the health department is have them come out and approve your plans before you attempt anything if they will. In my county they will come and do that for free. I checked with them on every detail before I bought anything and I still didn't end up getting all the information I needed. It is so frustrating. I think there should just be a list of all the requirements or something. I thought they were so helpful and I had everything approved, then she came out for the inspection today and said that the three compartment sink was technically supposed to be hooked up to an open drain instead of closed pipes(whatever that means). I almost fainted right there!! She said they would not worry about it since they failed to inform me of it. I just don't understand how you can not tell someone that when they are working with you on the requirements practically everyday for four months. It is like pulling teeth to get all the information for some reason. I am glad she overlooked it but it still makes me nervous like maybe is she quits and I get some other inspector they will tell me I can't have it like that. I am just the type of person who likes everything to be like it should be or I am stressed. Anyway, I am so excited to get the ball rolling!!
Sorry I forgot - My business name is Lindsay's Layers (had to register that with the city clerk's office. $11 fee. there is a fee for everything). And thanks Mrs. Missey for posting the pics.
Wanted to add that before I started any of this with the health department I had to go through the zoning office. That is a whole other story.
Congrats! I hope you get lots of business! From looking at your kitchen it looks like what I have been told in order to do one in my county. The main thing I don't have is the sink........one thing at a time, huh! I live in SE Georgia. Are you in Georgia also?
Best of luck and may your business be blessed with all the orders you want!!!!
