Hi guys...I bought a new item at the supermarket to try out. It is Pillsbury Softasilk Cake Flour. I'll let you know haw that works....Anyway...on the back of the box they had a promotion for a subscription for ACD magazine. The normal US price is $28.00 and some subscription companies sell it for $24.00 but Pillsbury offered it for $18.00US and $24.00CA....they also said $31.00US for foreign countries.

Go to www.americancakedecorating.com and when you check out, type in the code SAS34 for the discount. (I doubt that each package has it's own code.)

I can't wait to get my first magazine! I know it's bi-monthly...does anyone know when the next one is due? Thanks!!!!

Hi adven68, I use Softasilk for my bc, I really like it
I think it blends real well and has no taste on its own so it works for a lot of different things
plus the price is right.

Which recipe do you use for BC that requires flour?

.....and I'm glad to help for those of you who used the code!

I use ''Crusting ButtercreamII
it takes
1 1/2 c crisco
1/2 c cake flour
2 lbs. powdered sugar
1/4 c hot water
2 tsp. clear vanilla

It's from a recipe from here at CC.
the flour is supposed to be a stablizer like meringue powder

I ordered my subscription to both ACD and MBN on January 5th, 2006. I knew from reading some earlier posts that they take a while to get started if you are between issue publications so I wasn't expecting it yet. I got the free newsletter from ACD today and it has a customer service tab that shows when the next issue (Feb/March '06) will be mailed out and it says it will go out February 9th. I wonder if you guys that just ordered ahead of this mailout will get your first issue on this Feb 9th mailing- that would be nice.

As for ACD, I'm not too impressed with it. I won several issues on Ebay and got them in this past Saturday. They ranged from 1999 to 2002 and I've already gone through all 18 issues!! I was a little disappointed that they put the "Bride's Guide to Wedding Cakes" article in every other issue. I mean, really, they could have used those two or three pages to give us more pictures (and better detailed pictures at that). Okay, I'm sorry...maybe their editing has gotten much much better in the past 4 years. Let's hope so. I heard that the MBN is better than ACD but I'll have to wait to see.

Hope you all have good fortune by receiving your new subscription on this mailout. I'm waiting by the mailbox!!
