Well to me it looks like they iced over pretzel sticks!

Hmmm icon_confused.gif The hair looks like maybe you could use the large pretzel sticks, and ice over. The hands look like maybe fondant or something like that. Hope that helps.

it looks like a large star tip or even like a playdough piece of equipment where you push the playdough through the tube. Maybe you could use fondant and let it air dry?

Looks like royal icing that was allowed to dry and then stuck into the cake. The hands look like candy clay or fondant.

I thought maybe pretzel sticks too, that's what they reminded me of.

Actually I think it's the 2D tip or star tip...you can do it with royal icing or very thick buttercream - you just stay in one spot and point your tip straight down and then as you are squeezing the icing out, you move your hand slightly up and down to get the wiggle effect...I don't know if you've taken the Wilton courses or not, but that's the same way to make the clown arms, legs, and body!

I did take the wilton courses..I didn't even think of that ..that would definitely be the easiest!!

And they're having a kids scientist come to the party..he's having the kids do experiments making cotton candy and floam. Should be interesting..lol
I'm just glad that it's NOT at my house icon_wink.gif

The short hair is just buttercream through a large star tip. The long hair is probably supported with dowel sticks. Get a tip large enough to slide the dowel through easily. Push the stick in your cake deeply so that it is well supported and sticks out the necessary length. Take your tube with star tip and slide it over the stick all the way down to the cake. Start squeezing and as you do slowly slide the tube off of the stick.

I think that if you tried this with pretzels, it would get hung up. It might also get soggy.

HTH

Yippy!!! I finished it ..finally!
I ended up using the dowels and the star tip..it was actually easy..easier than the smaller ones.
This is my 11th cake icon_smile.gif I'm learning!! And I think my hand strength is getting stronger lol
