I finally completed my ear candling cake. I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out. Thank you to all those that gave me some suggestions on where to start. Special thank you to ellepal who gave me some tips on how to carve a cake and to SquirrellyCakes who gave me even more tips on how to carve a cake and for sharing her recipes.

It's a lemon cake torted into 3 layers filled with lemon filling. Crumb coated with regular BC.

This is my first carved cake. I know I have a LONG way to go with carved cakes. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

while I don't get the idea of ear candling, your ear (cake) certainly looks good enough to nibble on. icon_lol.gif

The cake is great! Ears are not any easy body part to replicate. An ear with a burning object inserted is just not something you see everyday. icon_biggrin.gif

I was planning on it. I just didn't have time to do it last night because it was so late!

Thanks bubblezmom! It didn't come out exactly as I pictured it, but overall I'm really happy with it considering I've never done a carving before!

I also had some leftover lemon filling. I didn't want it to go to waste so I just made some lemon tarts with them. Yumm...

Looks great! I was wondering how you were going to pull it off, and you did.

Whoohoo, this should score some extra Brownie points for sure! Haha, looking very good kiddo, very original cake, I think you pulled it off really well! Like the definition of the lines and creases in the ear. Hhmn, too authentic, the lemon filling was ear wax? Haha, sorry couldn't resist! I can hear a loud course of, "Oooh, grosse!" to the ear wax remark.
Great job!

It looks pretty amazing for your first carved cake. What's the reason for this cake if I might ask?

Great job! May I ask, what was the event this cake was made for? Just curious since it is so unique!

I LOVE IT! A couple of the women I work with swear by the whole ear-candling thing. Seems a bit scaery to me to create a vaccuum to pull all the nasties out of your ear but whatever floats yer boat, eh??

Great cake!!

Thanks! My brother actually wanted me to make little "wax balls" to go into the ear candle and partly in the ear. Now THAT'S GROSS!

Thanks everyone! I had A LOT of help with this one!

I'm currently in school for Massage Therapy. I have a group project due today on ear candling. I thought I could earn some "suck up" credit for making a cake. icon_cool.gif My instructor's favorite cake is lemon cake and with all the frosting I needed to help form the cake, I decided a lemon filling would offset the sweetness. Hopefully it'll taste good. I like how everything tastes INDIVIDUALLY, but I didn't have much cake leftover to taste how everything would be together. I'm a bit apprehensive on how it's going to taste. icon_redface.gif

I brought my cake into school last night and everyone "ooh'ed and aah'ed" it! My instructor even took a picture of it. I was still apprehensive about how it was going to taste, but once I cut into it and started passing the cake around, everyone was saying how good it was! icon_biggrin.gif I was so happy! Almost everyone went for 2 or 3 pieces! icon_lol.gif
