Well...if you have been reading my posts lately you know I had a cake project to do with my son's 1st grade class today. It went great!!!! Thanks to everyone's suggestions. The kids had a blast and the teacher was amazed with the cakes....

I can't wait to hear what the parents thought!

Here's a photo of one finished cake...mind you...they are first graders!!

Ok...let me elaborate....I pre-made everything and the kids frosted and assembled, basically.

I made vanilla sheet cakes and used a circle cutter to cut the "buns". I rounded out the top bun by pressing it into a round mold for a few seconds. I made chocolate bc frosting and the kids frosted the cakes. Then they added the burger which was a round piece of dark chocolate cake. Then they added the fondant lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. The sesame seeds were fondant pieces that I used my eyelet cutter to cut. Perfect shape.

The "fries" are cake scraps cut with my pizza cutter into thin strips and then piped with red "ketchup" piping gel. I got "takeout" boxes (really corsage boxes from my friendly florist) and waxed paper, and viola! dinner and dessert all wrapped up in one!!!!

Everyone commented on what a great party project this would make. The prep time was only a couple of hours. And the kids had a ball. I would have covered the buns in fondant but was pressed for time. But they really were adorable...and inexpensive.

What a fun thing to do! The sesame seeds look good, too, along with everything else. I'm sure everybody had a blast! And what patience you must have! icon_biggrin.gif

Wow...... very creative and I am a dunce.gif because I was wondering how you were going to get first graders to decorate a cupcake to look like a hamburger............... But the fondant cheese, tomato and lettuce is BRILLIANT! And the french fries! Too Much! Too Cute. As always, I am in awe of your ideas and work.
