The chocolate covered pretzel thread got me going to make some of these for a party at work and try to make as many "simple" things as possible. I have WAY too much to do next week!
So I was wondering something, what else do you guys dip besides pretzels. I saw others mention marshmallows. Anything else?? This is going to be yummy!!! icon_razz.gif

I make what my family calls "cowpatties". You dump a bunch of halved pecans in melted almond bark then scoop spoonfulls onto wax paper and let dry.

The story behind the name is: I was making them one day (about 5-6 years ago) and my niece walked by and asked "Aunt Bonnie, what are you making?" and as a joke I immediately said "cowpatties". They look just like them. My niece got a big kick out of it and the name stuck.

I made the crockpot candy, which is dry roasted peanuts and chocolate...very easy, will give you the recipe if you want....It is basically peanut clusters and they turned out really good.

Take 2 ritz crackers, fill with peanut butter, then dip in chocolate. *drooool*

Another favorite of mine is chow mein noodles. You just mix them into the bowl of melted chocolate and drop them by the tablespoonful onto wax paper. I made them in home ec in 7th grade and have loved them ever since!

You can also dip dried fruit, like apricots or pineapple, raisin & nut clusters would be good.

A super easy recipe (tastes a million times better than it sounds) that doesn't even need chocolate, but you could dip it if you want:

Throw in the food processor until very finely chopped:
1 c toasted almonds
1 c raisins
Add:
1 t vanilla
enough apple/grape/really any juice you feel like but probably not orange
until it forms a clump.
Roll into balls and chill.

Banana spring rolls! Wrap small slices of banana in a spring roller wrapper, seal with beaten egg. Deep fry. Drain on paper towel then dip each end in melted chocolate and chopped nuts. Delish!

Haystacks

12 oz butterscotch chips
1 tbsp peanut butter

mix together and melt in microwave

Add chow mein noodles (5 oz can) and cocktail peanuts (if desired)

Mix all together and form haystacks on wax paper. Usually sit out in my garage (if you live where it is cold!) for 10 min. and they are set. Yummy. YOu can also use choc. chips if you would rather not use butterscotch. Very easy!

A spring roll is pretty much the same thing as an egg roll. It sounds like she's making them small, so you could probably use a wont-ton wrapper too.

Popcorn!
This is one of my staples around the holidays:

1 bag microwave popcorn, either natural or low butter variety, popped and extra kernels removed

1/2 package white almond bark, melted.

sprinkles

Spread the popcorn out on a waxed paper lined baking sheet. Drizzle with almond bark (I use a slotted spoon to drizzle it more evenly). Cover with sprinkles in desired colors. Pour into a big brown paper bag, and shake to cover more evenly. Pour back onto cookie sheet, and let dry. Break apart any large clumps.

This is wildly popular around here. I usually make a big batch to give my kids teachers, it is super cheap to make as well as easy.

My grandmother makes a cookie that tastes just like the girl scout thin mint cookies. She melts chocolate almond bark and adds a little bit of peppermint extract (about 1 tsp. per package of almond bark.) She dips Ritz crackers into that, then places them on waxed paper to dry. You can change the amount of peppermint to your taste.

We have this really good cookie recipe. It's a soft chewy ginger cookie and then we dip them halfway into white chocolate. Yummy. They are so good. My son only eats the half that is dipped in the chocolate. icon_smile.gif

Does almond bark have an almond flavor? Should I be able to find it with the other baking chocolate?

DeenieWeenie, that is a great idea to use a slotted spoon to drizzle. I'll have to give that a try.

I don't think it takes like almond. I think it's just a more economical variation on white chocolate. And I think it has stuff added to it, so it's a more dippable consistancy than white chocolate which you might have to add crisco or something to, to make it more creamy and thin.

Cherries, Strawberries, Orange sections, and Kiwi, as well as pretzels. I am making baskets that will include the fruit. Excep the cherries, that was a request by my oldest grandson. Everybody gets to pick one Goodie for Christmas and I make them all. That is about 10 different goodies. Last year There were so many goodies left from our dinner, Everybody took home a container full and ate for a week.

But I just love it. That is Christmas for me, something that has been a tradition for years, even as a child.

The orange rind??? It's sorta bitter.

Sorta off-topic, but did ya'll see the mini-chocolate cream cones on Unwrapped? The company is Moonstruck Chocolates. They chocolates are beautiful and made from the best ingredients. I was all set to buy some, but then they charged $11 shipping. $11 shipping for a pkg that weighs 1/2lb?!! I think not.

Highly recommend dipping ritz peanutbutter crackers in choc. almond bark. Got the idea from gilson6. They are soooooooooooooooooooo good and super easy. I got 50 sandwiches covered with 1 thing of almond bark. I put them all away in the freezer and left one out to try. Glad I put them away, sealed the container with tape and knoted them in a plastic bag or there would be only 40 left!!!!!

Anyone tried making graham cracker sandwiches with marshmallow fluff and dipping them in choc.? I am thinking I might have to try that next.

Stogz,

Did you buy the Ritz with peanut butter already in them, or did you put peanut butter between 2 crackers and then dip?

Also, did you see that I tried the caramel sauce with very poor results..I got caramels at the store yesterday, but haven't done them yet.

cindy6250 :

I bought big ritz crackers and put peanut butter between them. I put them in the freezer over night. Dipped them this morning and it was really easy b/c they didn't move since they were cold.

I did see your results. Thanks. I am going to go to the store today, I might have to buy some too. I will just have to save the carmel ice cream topping for ice cream icon_smile.gif
