Add a box of chocolate pudding mix to it, and if you use the Cake Mix Extender recipe, use chocolate syrup to get a chocolaty taste- it makes the cake less "bitter" tasting- more sweet tasting.

I've actually got a chocolate cake in the oven now that I doctored. I added a box of pudding, 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 3/4 tsp salt, 1 cup sour cream, 1 tsp vanilla, 3 Tbsp Cocoa powder, and 1 extra egg to the ingredients listed on the box. I am making a 12 inch round and it was the perfect amount of batter for the pan.....

I've been adding a box of pudding and Di Saronno to the DH "Triple Chocolate" cake and it's yummy!

I just doctored the DH dark chocolate fudge cake mix using a recipe from ellepal. It was sooooo delicious!! This is her recipe. Oh! I didn't use the liqueur though, but it was still wonderful!

If you go to Walmart and buy the chocolate fudge duncan hines, it is really good.
EXCEPT: I use 1 stick of melted unsalted butter for the oil, and
1 1/3 cups milk for the liquid, add a tbsp. of vanilla. Then I dribble chocolate temptations liqueur in between each layer (when its done baking and cooled) and put in homemade choc. ganache as a filling. I will tell you one thing: people are floored when I tell them I used a mix. They tell me its the most delish choc cake they've ever had. They are moist, buttery, not too sweet, and flavorful, and always reliable.

A buttery chocolate cake? Would that be like a chocolate bread? I've seen recipes for those, but haven't tried one.

Adding a box of pudding to the cakemix or a cup of sourcream will give it a richer, closer to scratch taste. Chocolate cakes a very easy to make from scratch. There is recipe on the back of the Hershey's cocoa can.

I don't remember it tasting buttery. It was really moist and dense though. And it wasn't very sweet, which was good because I paired it with a white chocolate ganace filling and chocolate ganache glaze. Very Rich!
