Here is my first fondant cake... i have it posted in the gallery as well.. i'm hoping to get a full length photo but this is a start. My bride wanted anything with the polka-dots.. she didnt care as long as it had the dots and the groom didnt want a "cheesy" topper (his words).. so this is my version of the cover of the Wilton Wedding Cakes - A Romantic Portfolio... this was so much fun.. my mother (who taught me and comes from old school Wilton) helped me make about 150 roses and leaves (leaves are not on the orginial).. i had to take this 2 hours up into the Rocky Mountains and almost killed my driver by the end of the trip.. he has no concept of cake decorating and was more concerned about speeding around the bends of the mountains... needless to say he put 2 dents into the cake but fondant is wonderful in smoothing out flaws.. i also had to fight with the owners of restaraunt who did the reception.. they kept insisting to put it in the refrigerator and to wheel it out when it was time ti cut the cake.. HELLLOOOOOOOOOOO... its a 3 teir'd stacked cake.. A. i dont refrigerate fondant... 2. its not a birthday cake that gets wheeled out.. and III. this is a $600+ cake and if it falls my bride will die!!
i got my way......
thanks for looking.
i hope to have a full length pic shortly.............
From this pic, the cake looks gorgeous! How lucky for you to have a mother to teach you and share with you!
Great job!
thanks guys.. it was fun learning about fondant.. i didnt do a single thing until i read almost every post on fondant on this website.. my mom was a bit afraid of the new technique but she had fun learning with me.. she wouldnt even touch the fondant until i begged her to just help me lift it over the larger (bottom) cake..
of course having a professional photographer take a shot always helps..
WOW!!!! That is such a spectacular cake.. hard to tell it is your first fondant cake.. It looks perfect.

Well, it is perfect and the topper of roses and leaves, is gorgeous! I like it better with leaves added and this is just extraordinary!

Thanks everyone.. i couldnt have done any of this without this website.. truly...
The cake is french vanilla with buttercream filling.. MMF fondant, gumpaste roses/leaves (a few forget-me-nots) and royal dots...
I want to say outstanding..but that doesn't even begin to describe it!!!
Superbly perfect... lol - is that even a word?
I am so glad you posted the full picture of the cake. I think it is stunning. I can't believe this was your first MMF cake! I can only hope to make a cake this beautiful. Your mother has done a wonderful job as your "instructor" she should be very proud as well!
thanks for the kind words.. trust me i did my homework with this one.. i read a million tips on fondant.. and did a practice cake (one tier only)... i cant wait for the next one.. hopefully i didnt have beginners luck..
ive always done buttercream and royal for many years... this is now my favorite way.. the options are endless..
I never would have guessed this was your first fondant cake!!!! Looks like a PRO did it!!!!!! Its beautiful, and good job on sticking to your guns at the reception!!!
That looks really great! I also love the way the picture is set up with the border. I might use that technique when I get my website up!
