Aunt Bert’s White Cake Ingredients 2 cups white sugar2 cups sifted all-purpose flour3 egg yolks1 egg1/2 cup buttermilk1 teaspoon vanilla extract1/2 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon baking powder1 teaspoon baking soda1/2 cup shortening1 cup boiling water Instructions 1 Mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda. Set aside. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat well. 2 Add buttermilk and baking soda mixture. 3 Sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture. 4 Add boiling water, and mix well. 5 Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. 6 Let cool. I frost with cream cheese frosting.
