Aunt Bert's White Cake

This is a very old recipe that I got from my deceased friend Holli’s Aunt Bert. Everyone will love it.

Aunt Bert’s White Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

1 Mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda. Set aside. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat well.

2 Add buttermilk and baking soda mixture.

3 Sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture.

4 Add boiling water, and mix well.

5 Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

6 Let cool. I frost with cream cheese frosting.
