Mama We Miss You

This was the first Mother's Day since my mother passed away last August. We got together to celebrate the day with our children and I made this cake in remembrance of my mother's love of gardening.

The cake was lemon layered with American buttercream, covered in fondant and decorated with pink gumpaste dogwood flowers and a blue fondant sash. I used a place mat I picked up at the dollar store to emboss the "straw" pattern on the hat, and the brim is of a piece with the fondant covering the hat itself.
