This was actually a dual purpose cake. It is a birthday cake for the mother of a friend of mine who recently died. Her birthday happens to fall on the 40th day of my friend's death, which hold a significance in the Filipino culture. We are gathering together tonight for a prayer service for my friend, as well as celebrating her life, and her mothers. I wanted it to have color, and not be "hit-you-over-the-head-Christmas" since it's not really a Christmas cake, but the day falls so close to Christmas. WASC with MMF, and gumpaste Poinsettia.
