I designed this cake based on the Nickelodeon cartoon Avatar. I'd never heard of it before, but the mom said she wanted to include these 4 symbols from it, for earth, air, water, and fire. So here's what I came up with! It's a 12in square frosted in buttercream. The 4 colored squares were cut from fondant, then I painted the symbols on them with a mix of food coloring and clear vanilla. I've never really painted before, so I was nervous, but I think they turned out good. I cut the lettering freehand, to look similar to the lettering used for the cartoon's title. The character was pieced from fondant, then outlined with a Wilton foodwriter.
