This cake caused me more grey hairs than I care to think about. We had our first summer storm on Friday last week and it took out my power for 13 hours - and I had 2 wedding cakes due for the Saturday!. Having a gas oven does help but not when you need your mixer for copious amounts of cake batter that can't be done by hand! Long story short - I managed to get both cakes to their respective weddings on time - although the chocolate cake suffered in the heat (it is seriously hot here at the moment).
