This cake is iced smooth with buttercream. Pre-pressed scrolls encircle each layer. Edible pearls accent each layer as well. Flowers placed on the cake by the florist.
I add 1 Tbsp. of corn syrup to 6 cups of my half butter/half GV Walmart all vegetable shortening. I use it for smoothing consistency, but it adds a little shine to the cake as well.
Thanks everyone! I love this design as well. I have done this style on 2 other round wedding cakes as well as a square one. They look completely different each time because of the flowers.
So PERFECT!! what is your secret oh how to smooth buttercream like that??? I can't ever get it to look polished like that to save my cakes...you've got to share.
Thanks so much everyone. The way I smooth my cake is to allow them to crust over well. I use parchment paper and my warm hand. Just keep going over the cake until it is smooth. You may need to change your parchment paper periodically or the icing will start to stick.

Did you put anything in your buttercream, it has a "pearly" sheen to it?

Pre Pressed Scrolls? So you used a pattern and piped over the impression? This is going into favs
