This cake was made for my son's 8th birthday adn the Sacramento Discovery Space and Science Center. The cake (both base and planet) is chocolate with chocolate buttercream covered in fondant. The planet was made with a Wilton sports ball pan. The planet clouds were painted on with food coloring and vodka. There are glow stars attached to the fondant stars on the base and hanging from the wires above the cake. The rings are made from glow bracelets and necklaces. the "J" is made from silver coated licorice wires and LED lights. The cake plate also had LED lights. When we turned out the lights to sing "Happy Birthday" the whole cake lit up. It was great!
