What Goes In-Between Cake Layers To Lift Them Up Like This Picture Shows?

I can't think as to what is being used in-between these cake layers! Would someone be able to help me as i want to recreate something similar? What Goes In-Between Cake Layers To Lift Them Up Like This Picture Shows?

Styrofoam disks covered w/ribbon or fondant.

Ive done something similar and used Styrofoam disk and covered them in gold washi  tape
