Hi all,

I have a fair amount of experience in sugar flowers and decorating but I'm looking to achieve the look of this cake for an upcoming event. My question is about the method used to attach the flowers securely to the separators . I'm assuming that cake dummies are being used in between the real tiers and that I can simply insert the flowers directly into the foam with some RI to secure ? Also note how far out the flowers protrude, looking for the same effect . This is a Sylvia Weinstock cake if anyone hasn't guessed.

-Cheers

I think you are right on the button using dummies between each tier of real cake.  It shouldn't be that hard to get the flowers to protrude - just use longer stem wires.

Thanks - I'm also experimenting with thicker gauges for the flowers. I use 20 gauge, wrap it in white floral tape until it's double the size, and now I have something that's really sturdy. Sounds like that's the way to get this done.
