Aahhhhh the beauty of autumn.   Want to share that beauty  in the cakes you make?   Here is how to make all those beautiful color so they blend together.

Fall Color blending

Make a batch of white b'cream icing.  Depending on how many and what size cakes you will be making decide how much *total* colored icing you will need.  The whole batch?  1/2 of it? 1 Cup?  it's up to you how much to start out with.

Color it a nice light yellow.  Remove 1/5th of it; set aside, covered.  To the remaining 4/5ths add more yellow color to make a nice rich, bright yellow.

Remove 1/4; set aside, covered.  To the remaining 3/4ths add orange color to make a nice medium orange shade.

Remove 1/3rd & set aside, covered.  To the remaining 2/3rds, add red color so you have a nice, rich but not too dark red.

Remove 1/2 and set aside, covered.  To the remaining 1/2 add more red color for a deep, deep red shade of icing.

Filling your bag with icing

On a small sheet of waxed paper or parchment, using an icing spatula, make a thin layer rectangle - size will depend on how much you made.  For one 10" or 12" bag make the rectangle about 3"x6" of the light yellow.  Continue layering each color one on top of the other using each color.  When finished, use the spatula to roll up the entire amount and place into your piping bag.

Just making one cake?  Wish to make a more simple color combination?

Spatula stripe your bag using any combination of red, yellow, orange, or brown icings before filling the bag with green icing.

Happy autumn decorating!
