So I thought I didn't have enough cake batter in my pans, I am doing 2- 6" rounds and 2 10" rounds, so I added more. After baking for a while went to check on them and have a mess!! There is cake batter everywhere in my oven all over the sides of the pans and my whole house smells like burnt cake. This has never happened to me before and I have made quite a few cakes! Any suggestions, are these cakes salvagable or do I have to start from scratch??

Once you get the cakes out of the pan, just level as normal............they should be fine.

Be careful though. I did that once and trimmed the tops and used them. Then when I took them to an event, they cut it and said the cake smelled like smoke. I couldn't smell it while I was decorating because I was immune to the smoke smell from being in it. Take them outside and ask someone who hasn't been in the house to smell them before you decorate them.
