I would love to display my cakes on a pedestal cake stand. I have searched the internet but most stands are under 14" in size. And custom made stands are out of my price range. Any suggestions?
I have put a covered wood cakeboard on a smaller cakestand. As long as the cake stand is flat it works very well. I secured it with a smear of hot glue which came right off when I was done with it. I did this for my mother's birthday cake.
I have been having this issue as well. I do mostly cake bites and have been having trouble finding a display tray that was perfectly flat.
I am in the middle of an experiment...I bought a wooden table top (20") and its glass protective cover for $9 each online from Bed Bath and Beyond.
It is my plan to go to the salvation army and find things I can attach as legs...for the glass I am looking for either a cake stand but since I am a little worried about stability maybe... 4 identical glass candle holders which I will attach with the appropriate glue. For the wooden one I am looking for 4 very short table legs or fence post toppers that I will attach.
p.s. I think you can have the glass cut pretty inexpensively if you need a different size or shape
Look at plant stands to go under your glass. You can put those little rubber stick-on things under the glass, so it's not metal against glass.
I hope you post some pics...I love your experiment!
Thank you for all of your good ideas.
AHi, I am revisiting this post. Over the past years I have been using a patio turn table glass as a plate for my large cakes. I would like to make a vintage type cake stand with a old lamp base I found, my problem is finding the flat cake plate at least 15" and preferable in white with maybe a gold painted edge. Any ideas where to find one?
Re: Cake plate - white glass with gold edge. Have you tried searching for white dessert platters - instead of cake - try changing up the words in your search. White and gold glass platter, white and gold cookie tray, white and gold glass serving tray - things like that because you never know what's in peoples minds when they post ads for items for sale.
I posted a thread recently because I was looking into making sturdy, affordable wood cake stands asking what people liked and what they are willing to pay for a GOOD product. I got a few replies and have been looking for someone with a lathe to help me turn the spindles. I will let everyone know if I find a way to do it the way I have planned.
Believe it or not I was thinking about this thread on my way back from delivering a wedding cake - you were looking for something flat. Â What about going to junk shops or antique places for old picture frames, fitting them with glass or a piece of wood then putting that on rustic looking legs or spindles, depending on how fancy or plain the frame is. Â How's that for flat?
AJust had this made by local guy & Love it! He did awesome job so ill be asking for more of them.
Never mind wont load
keep trying! I want to see.. I'm really more excited by my cake leveler. I love wood working but I am back in physical therapy for my wrists. With the leveler I just need brain power! I just hope this dude I shared my plans with doesn't try to steal them and make BILLIONS of $$...just kidding. I know I am protected by copyright laws from the moment I mention my plan in public for 1 year. If I do not apply for CR by then anyone can use my plan.
AHere's the end result. The stand is from a lamp stand. I placed a flat plate in the "bowl" since I could not find a plate large enough for the cake. I am quite pleased with how it all turned out.
