It looks like you'll have to pay for a licensing fee to use the images on the cricut cake cartridges if you plan on selling cakes made with them. Here's the link to the page, but there's no info on how much it will cost yet. http://www.cricut.com/(X(1)S(cb0gic55lb1byc55vcglusio))/shop/?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1#3/71/0/3/CricutCake/

If the pictures dont show up, click on the licensing link to the left.

I just posted about this on the General board

http://cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-6781618-.html#6781618

But if you use SCAL or a similar program, then it's a non-issue. It's only a problem if you want to use cartridge content, so at least there is a way around it.

Indeed she did, in response to my post in that thread about this same issue where I pointed this out.

Hmmmm, I better start practicing with my exacto!!! Can you imagine paying 400 for the Cricut cake and then have to pay hundreds more for the cartridges and licenses? Doesn't seem so cost effective anymore.

Actually I was referring to my post on the General board http://cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-6781618-.html#6781618 which I created before I noticed your post on the Cake Decorating board http://cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-6781643-.html#6781643, which I then responded to after my initial post.

I started a thread too but I hadn't seen the other comments about it before. Are we arguing about who can copyright that topic now or something? icon_rolleyes.gif

Lordy, we have a lot of threads about the same thing around! HOpefully they can get the consolodated.

your point about SCAL is a good one though. I guess it's time to buy it and figure the thing out so I can avoid buying cartridges. Do you use it much?

I don't use cartridges much at all (I only own the two that came bundled when I bought my expression). I do almost all of my cutting with SCAL on my laptop, both for cakes and scrapbooking... the cartridges are great in some ways, but just too limiting for me, not to mention expensive!
