I've done stacked cakes in the past using cake boards and dowel roads, but am really considering using plates for separating the tiers. What do you prefer?

Plastic cake plates with the pillars in the cake. Hope this makes sense.

I prefer SPS - Single Plate Separator.

I prefer the plastic plates..I guess I just feel the cakes are more secure.

Glad to hear that. I've just ordered the plates and the columns. This has to be a better option.
