I have been looking at some cakes by some of the nationally known cake decorators from around the country and noticed that several of them have licensed character-themed cakes on their site. These are not cake done for say Disney or some other company, just everyday kids birthdays and such. Last week on an episode of a popular cake show a lady ordered an It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown cake for her husband's birthday or something.

So how do you go about securing rights to make these cakes? I'd think the royalties on the images would make the cost of the cake beyond most people's means...if you could get permission to do them at all.

I don't know, Jeff, but when I grow up I hope to be able to do that myself someday.

I mean I've been granted permission for a few things here & there--most often literary. Yah just gotta ask huh.
