I have noticed the last few times I've used my mixer it starts making a funny high pitched buzzing sound after about 5-10 mins of use, and it's also getting really hot on top. I know the sound is not normal, but do they normally get hot? I notice it especially if I'm making frosting.
I'm a little concerned, I can't afford to replace it if it craps out on me, and if this matters, it's a refurbished 5qt bowl lift model.

Sounds to me like it needs to be cleaned/oiled. Call a repair place and see what it would cost. It should be a simple fix. W/all the powdered sugar & flour we use it needs to be done now & then.

Thanks Kakeladi, I will call around!
Also, I noticed when i took off the paddle just now, the arm that holds the paddle had black grease all over it, is that something serious?
