Congrats on being chosen!! That is amazing! If you are anywhere near TX I would gladly volunteer
Good luck!!
How awesome! Congrats and the best of luck to you. I'm waiting for you to "reveal" yourself.
In the demo I took with Kerry at the ICES convention, she talked a little about the FN and challenges and is fully aware of how she comes off. She is a direct, no nonsense, blunt person but as someone said earlier, she is very supportive and very encouraging. It changed my idea of her a bit because I was hesitant about taking that demo. She said they've tried to push her into the direction of being the "Simon Cowell" of the cake world and she refuses. I think they saw how she can be and want to capitalize on that "drama" aspect.
Congreatulations! Did you enter something? How did they hear about you? We will all be cheering for you, if we can figure out who you are exactly....
That...is waaaaaaaaaaaay too cool! Congratulations!
After hanging up, I'd stare at the phone trying to figure out who was tryin' to "Punk" me....names flashing across my mind as my eyes are following them across the "screen"....DH would probably ask "who was that?"...me sitting there looking like I'm going berzerk(?) unable to answer...he'd get pissed because he thinks I'm ignoring him...I'd approach him like a cast member from Sean of the Dead...."uh, ummmm...I dunno...they said they were from Food Network..." I don't know what I'd do after that point.
I volunteer to go!! I worded in a TV studio for a while in HS and those lights and cameras don't phase me... and the Smartest thing I ever did was conquer my fear of public attention by taking classes that forced it... SO BRING IT ON!
I'll be your helper, and I'll find a way to work with you before we get there!
Pick me! Pick me! I can get my picture taken with the FN stars, let all my friends see me on TV, get to play with cakes, and just be the lowly assistant in the background! (oh wait .... in between all of this fun and jockularity, I'm suppose to help you do something, right? )
Congratulations! What an awesome opportunity...can't wait to hear all about your experience and of course, who you are
The best of luck to you!
Now, that would be terrible...if you were unable to participate due to lack of an assistant!
I'm sure there's a cake buddy on CC even that is both qualified and willing to help you out in your time of need
CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!! With all the amazing talent here,I'm glad someone gets the chance to show off a little. Good luck and may the LORD be with you. Derrell
And by the way Tracycakes, you are correct about Kerry. At ICES show in Orlando, wife and I got to spend about 45 minuets with her at breakfast one morning. She is ALL about deserving cake artists getting the reconition they deserve. Not at all like the outakes they show on FN.
Congrats! That is so amazing...you must be so excited and going crazy all at once. Just take a deep breath and like eveyone else said just practice as much as you can! Can't wait to see you on the show and have you reveal yourself!!
I just came across this thread? I feel like I must have been under a rock when this one was going on because I never saw it... they just taped I think three challenges, were you in one of them? Can you tell us how it was yet? I wish they would tape them in NYC, I would LOVE to watch one!
I had a friend participate in a challenge. She was all pumped up and was going to take one of her assistants with her. Then FN changed things....several times. She ended up going and being the "assistant" to a former winner. They of course had never worked together and they did not really click. I think the scariest part of the whole thing is, you just don't know what they are going to expect of you. You sometimes do not get a chance to practice.
My friend met with the other decorator one time 3 weeks before the taping. They never had an oppotunity to work together beforehand.
Just be prepared to jump through their hoops!
I'm almost embarrassed to say that we have called Kerri the Cake Nazi. I have always felt though that she had a huge heart and was probably way nicer than she is portrayed. She is a perfectionist and has high standards, but I can appreciate that, considering it motivates one to do better. Truthfully, I'd rather know that I worked my tail off and got a compliment that was well earned, than to have someone coddle me and not challenge me to do better and learn more. I have likened her to Simon Cowell myself, and I wonder if it has more to do with their nationality than their personality. Simon has grown on me over the years, as has Kerri. Simon loves puppies - he can't be all bad, now can he?
I hope you enjoy yourself. I have a saying - God doesn't take us where He cannot teach us or use us. I hope that you take the opportunity to learn lots while enjoying the experience. It's as much an opportunity to show who you are as it is what you can do!
What an honor! To even be considered would be amazing! I some how missed this thread when it started back in October. If you've already taped it, I hope things went well.
I am very, very slow at decorating, so for me to ever be in a challenge, it would have to be a marathon!! It probably takes me twice as long as the average person and then I'm still never completely satisfied with my work!
Please be sure to let us know when it will be aired!! I can't wait to see it. I try to watch all of the challenges. Many of them more than once!
Jean
oooh.. I missed that you said okay. Did you already have your competition? If so I can't wait to hear about it and if not well then GOOD LUCK!!!
I'd help if we were close.. I'd be deathly afraid, but I'd help. I'm good under pressure, but prefer to not be under it.
Let us know what's up!!
I would love to know how things went...or are going! Des anyone know what happened? If it hasnt happened yet...BEST OF LUCK!!!
