I tried printing this article the other day but the printer friendly version comes up with the cakecentral logo image instead of the tutorial pictures. Also, I'd like more clarification on the width/length of the strips and how many aproximately. I get that the width/length are probably more subject to the size you need than a standard but an example of a length and the size bow it produces would be great!!!

Here is another place where the directions are, maybe it will print out better for you... http://www.sugarcraft.com/catalog/misc/lessons/fondantbows/fondantbows.htm

For size... If I am doing a 10in cake, then I would cut my strips 8-9 inches long. That way when you fold them they will be around 4 inches long. I do that size for the bottom row of the bow. Then I do slightly shorter ones for each row. And a few real small ones for the top.

I usually cut them about an inch wide, but that does vary for how big I want the bow to be. Smaller cake, I'd do a bit smaller size. I also do some that are a little skinner so I can fit them in to holes that the other size won't fit.

I can't tell you how many to make since have never counted. I usually make quite a few, in case I have some that break when I am putting the bow together.

I did close to what TexasSugar wrote so I guess it will be okay. I'm using a small oval pan but don't care if the bow hangs off some of the sides. I cut them about 3/4 inch wide or a little thinner. I guess I'll try to assemble it tonight to see if it works or start again!

I noticed that the finished bow looked like it had been painted silver. How did you get it to have that effect? Did you use silver luster dust? If so, how much did you use and and to what proportion of extract? Also, how fondant/gum paste do you end up using to make a bow?

i used the directions here, and it worked out okay. but it doesn't tell you how wide the bow's should be, or how long the strips should be. I guess thats so you can decide for the size of your cake, but for me it was a little challanging. So now I have made two bows, to go on top of my brothers two cakes.

Hello. This is a great article. Thanks for providing it icon_smile.gif I was wondering though, how many pounds of fondant does this bow require? I have to make it for my customer's birthday cake and need to order the fondant online today.

Thanks,
Michelle Wagner

Do you put gum tex in your fondant to make the bows harder? If so, how do I know how much to use per bow?

Mine did too, but if you go ahead and print, the pics will come out.

Could have written into the instructions for dense people like me to make sure you color your royal icing the same color as the bow you are making? I didn't think about it at all when I started.

Hi,
Please tell me what the pink cutter is that you used to make the strips.
Thanks!
