I am wanting to try the icing method I read about on here using the spackle knife. I bought one from the wal mart and did not think about it until I got home. ok when we are attaching things to our cakes using wire we have to place them in straws right? Well, when I started to ice my cake I looked at the spackle knife and it is metal (not sure what kind) so I read on it and all it said was made in china....Now that really freaked me out due to all reacalls on toys and such....Is it safe to use this metal to smooth the icing? I want people see people happy not in the ER.........I have plactic putty knife (made in China too).... What do you guys think? Do any of you use this method?

As long as you wash it, it should be fine. It doesn't stay in contact with the food for long.

If you have concerns about the metal, you can get a bench scraper that is made from stainless steel. (many kitchen supply and restaurant supply stores carry them)
