I have never posted any cakes on this site. Last night, I finally got the nerve to post some. I got my camera all ready....no pictures! icon_eek.gificon_mad.gif I asked DH if he has been using the camera, and he said "yes". I asked him where my pictures are (there were approx. 20) and he said "Oh...I didn't think that you needed them any more so I deleted them!!! I just want to cry! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I had printed some of them, but the ones that I didn't print go all of the way back to my first cake! He just stood there looking at me while I was ranting and raving and said "well you can always take more!" icon_mad.gif He just doesn't understand...they were important to me!! icon_cry.gif
Thanks for letting me vent.

Oh gosh...kudos to you for not wringing his neck!

From now on you need to institute a rule. ALL pictures are downloaded to the computer....every last one. Deletions can then be made, but only by the person who took the picture.

I'm so sorry hat this happened. But I'll look forward to seeing your future pics. You've got support here!

I am really sorry, I know I would be heartbroken (and my cakes are Baaaad). icon_smile.gif I am seriously so afraid of this that I download my pics like every other week (we have a newborn) just "in case". I put my heart into my cakes (even if they don't look it) so I can relate to how mad you must be. Sorry!

Thank you all for the support...I knew that you guys would understand. I have learned a lesson. Put them on the computer EACH week! Our wedding anniversary is in a couple of weeks and I know the perfect gift for him...his OWN camera! thumbs_up.gif

But PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE back up your pix. Put them on a CD, print them out, whatever! Our computer took a nose dive around the end of this past year and guess who didn't do those things?!?! icon_redface.gificon_cry.gif We had to take our computer to a specialist and he was able to get some pix and some documents, but a lot of what we had is gone forever, along with a lot of our money. The cost is prohibitive to get some of that stuff done! icon_confused.gificon_mad.gif Please learn from our mistakes. dunce.gif

I'm so sorry icon_cry.gif

Sometimes digital cameras are a little too convenient. Before we had one, I usually kept a throw away around, just in case!

I feel for you!

Oh my goodness! My husband would NEVER delete any pictures off of my camera - especially ones of my cakes! He knows how important they are to me.

If my husband did that to me - he would get NO anniversary gift except the silent treatment and the opportunity to get to see me in tears all the time!

I'm so sorry!!

On Saturday, I made a cake and was at such a loss because my camera batteries were dead. I was seeking out neighbors looking for a camera. Finally, I found a cell phone with camera features...yeah! I got the pic...oh, the phone is from the states and doesn't have service here...no way to get the picture off the phone until he goes back up to the states...darn!

How we depend on our cameras, even if the cake isn't that good.

I think that is an exellent gift, his own camera.

Better luck in the future

One thing you might try is buying memory card just for your cake pictures. They hold a lot of pictures and are only a fraction of the cost of a separate camera. Then just make sure that you take the memory card out of the camera when you're done taking cake pictures, and stash it somewhere safe (maybe with your cake decorating supplies?).

my hubby would never delete mine either. He knows how very important my cake picyures are to me too.

We got a virus on one of our computers and lost 6 months worth of pictures!! I now have a external hard drive that I keep ALL of my pictures on.

That's a good idea...never thought of that...I'm still too mad.

Thanks

I know how to save your pictures! Unless he formatted the memory card they are still there. If they have just been deleted you can get most of them back. It is a free software program that I have that can even get pictures off a corrupted memory card. Let me find it and I can give you the website or email you the program.

Okay, I found it. Go to this website:
http://www.artplus.hr/adapps/eng/downloads.htm
Go to where it says Digital Photo Recovery and download
PhotoRec.exe

Before you run photorec, make a new folder on your desktop because it will ask where you want to put the pictures. It will pull all the pictures off your memory card, even ones that you think you deleted 3 years ago. icon_biggrin.gif You have to put your memory card into the slot in your printer for it to work. I couldn't get it to work with just my camera hooked to the computer. Hope you can figure this out and hope it helps. It worked for me.

I can go one better... I once had a memory card that 'expired' on me, with about 200 pics on it! I was devastated! Fortunately, they were pics of stuff I could get more pics of, but still... that's a lot of work to get just the right shots, and a lot of time to set them up. Ergh.

Now, I download after every photo session I do, whether it's 2 pictures or 200. I dont' want that to happen again! LOL And when I have a particular event that I've collected pictures of (because mine is rarely the only camera at gatherings... I wait till everyone has posted theirs and I've got the ones I want from their shots, as well), I burn them onto CD so that no matter what, short of fire, I've got copies. (hmmm... and come to think of it, maybe those should be stored in the safe, just in case!)

Yup... totally paranoid about losing pics here! LOL

It might sound expensive but it is worth it.

Get your pics printed and laminated and buy a heavy duty binder to clip them in.

You will look back at your work over the years and smile or think man what was I thinking as I will probably do with my first and only cake posted so far that was a complete disaster! icon_lol.gif

I don't see why husbands shouldn't seem the importance of cakes. There are so many posters whose husbands make them hopping mad. Men are pratical creatures they need examples, maybe if I took his prized baseball or that cut of ribeye steak he was planning to barbecue with the boys and gave it to the dog and said, oh he wanted to play with it or he was hungry. It is just a piece of meat or it's just a ball you can always buy a new one.

First of all...thanks to KathysCC. She PM'd me with the info about being able to retrieve the pictures. Then she posted it in the forum in case someone else might need the info. See...that's why I love you guys so much. You all go above and beyond to help others out! thumbs_up.gif I'm starting to calm down now knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that hopefully, I can retrieve those pictures. I can't wait to go home tonite and try it. As far as hubands go...he now knows not to mess with my stuff!! He is 15 inches taller than me and out-weighs me by about 150 pounds, but he knew not to mess with me last night! He has already called me 5 times today apologizing....hmmm wonder if I could get another expensive cake decorating toy out of him....maybe an air brush or an edible printer...naaah that's not nice. But then again.... icon_cool.gif

Oh sudden death is imminent if anyone touches my camera! Men! What can you do? I would've killed him! You're a strong woman, since he's obviously still alive. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif This is why FI and I have his-and-hers cameras, a separate professional camera and his-and-hers computers! I also invested in a 4 GB PNY drive which holds A LOT of pics! I have it hidden so no one will touch it! icon_rolleyes.gif
