I have an unopened bottle of light corn syrup. I almost opened it when I saw that it had a use by date of 10-22-06. It says: 102206K-12

I didn't think that corn syrup would have an expiration date.

I'll throw it out-I always go by the old adage: when in doubt-throw it out.

Never thought to look at the date on stuff like this before. I know some things don't really "go bad" as in harmful to use-just taste wise is not as good.

Am I being silly in throwing it out?

I don't think it spoils. icon_smile.gif All food has a "best by" date, but ... with corn syrup, eh, I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had corn syrup sit in the cabinet so long it crystalized. That is the worst I think would happen. If it is still clear and tastes fine and because it has never been opened...I would think it is okay.

I had a bottle of corn syrup from when I moved 5 years ago...from a house that I had lived in for 7 years...that came from my first place 10 years before that. icon_eek.gif

It was delicious on our pancakes! icon_biggrin.gif

Yum! I wouldn't throw it out!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif I'd eat it! thumbs_up.gif

I would use it, unless it has changed colors or crystalized. I recall my mom having a bottle of it in the cabinet when I was a kid. It had been there forever and it had crystalized. It was disgusting!

I have had some moldicon_sad.gif
But like everyone else, I'd use it if it looked & smelled o.k.

Thanks so much ladies. I will open it and taste. If I don't fall over dead I'll use it.

for the dollar it costs, I'd get a new bottle.

Well, I did throw it out. I don't want to make any one sick if it is bad.
