I have an unopened bottle of light corn syrup. I almost opened it when I saw that it had a use by date of 10-22-06. It says: 102206K-12
I didn't think that corn syrup would have an expiration date.
I'll throw it out-I always go by the old adage: when in doubt-throw it out.
Never thought to look at the date on stuff like this before. I know some things don't really "go bad" as in harmful to use-just taste wise is not as good.
Am I being silly in throwing it out?
I don't think it spoils. All food has a "best by" date, but ... with corn syrup, eh, I wouldn't worry about it.
I've had corn syrup sit in the cabinet so long it crystalized. That is the worst I think would happen. If it is still clear and tastes fine and because it has never been opened...I would think it is okay.
I had a bottle of corn syrup from when I moved 5 years ago...from a house that I had lived in for 7 years...that came from my first place 10 years before that.
It was delicious on our pancakes!
Yum! I wouldn't throw it out!! I'd eat it!
I'm with everyone else. I' ve only had mine as long as two years, happened to open it yesterday and used it. Tastes just fine.
I would use it, unless it has changed colors or crystalized. I recall my mom having a bottle of it in the cabinet when I was a kid. It had been there forever and it had crystalized. It was disgusting!
Thanks so much ladies. I will open it and taste. If I don't fall over dead I'll use it.
