I used a 10 inch doily. Looks like I might be able to get 4 out of each even if I make it taller. The template is 8.5" from tip to tip and 2 inchs wide. I took a cupcake liner and cut off the bottom, slit the side and laid it down on paper. Very simple. But as I mentioned in my post in the forum I will probably try and make them a little taller for a more dramatic look. Enjoy. The ones on line are $1 each!

Perhaps not brilliant just cheap and always looking for ways to cut expenses but thank you all for the compliments. There are many styles and colors of doilies on-line. They may not be grease proof but if we watch how close to the edge we go with the frosting they may work as well. I would love to find some with kid's party themes like the expensive wrappers on-line so if anyone knows a source let me know. In the mean time I am going to be contacting some of the manufacturers to ask if they could do...

Fantastic idea! Do you remove the liners you've baked in before slipping on the collars? What do you do about a bottom?

No, do not remove the liner. You will end up with either greasy spots or crumbs. No need for bottom if they are snug around the CC. Expensive ones don't have a bottom either.

[forehead slap] I've been drooling over the fancy ones online and here you come up with a way I can make prettier cupcakes without all the expense! You da QUEEN!

There are some beautiful doilies on-line that include flowers and fruit, fall leaves and others. Make sure you do a search and check them out.

Ooooh this is cute.... I too have been drooling over those $1/piece ones and have almost ordered them. I was so excited about this idea I had to immediately run downstairs and try it out. I made three in seconds and just love them. Now all I need are the cupcakes, mmm......

I have found that a tiny bit of glue from a low temp glue gun works the best. Tape tends to let go when you least expect it. I am so glad everyone is enjoying this technique. It adds so much and using scrap book and wrapping paper to match the party theme works wonderfully!

Just an FYI to everyone - you can color your dollies in advance using just cheap food colori and let it run to get a marble effect. Awesome ideal. Its great when we can share!
