A Closer Look: Fashion Cake By Jamila Jankipersadsing

In the Fashion issue of Cake Central Magazine (Volume 6, Issue 4), we asked cakemakers to create wedding cakes inspired by Couture fashion. The striking red color palette on Jamila Jankipersadsing's (MilaJJ) cake is right off the runway of On Aura Tout Vu. We felt it deserved a second look! Read on to learn about Jamila’s design process.

"When Cake Central approached me and I saw the eccentric dress by On Aura Tout Vu I was very excited. I was immediately attracted to the beautiful gems that were asymmetric placed on the model's dress, and the colours and design on the skirt, but also got a bit intimidated.

For a simple cake, I don’t sketch. For wedding cakes however I always sketch. I want to be sure the couple gets what they want. For project cakes like these I always take my time to think about the design, do a few pen scratches, try some decorating I have in mind, and draw the final sketch when I am pleased with the design. I stayed close to my final sketch, except for the flower. I wanted a flower with a Isomalt centre.I had a mold to make the centre, but it was a bit too big, so I had to improvise with the petals. But I am happy how the flower turned out. "

"My favourite part of this cake are the flares. I love how the bottom tier turned out. The colours match beautifully, and the cake is well balanced; asymmetric gems on the body at the top tier and dynamic red and white flares of the skirt at the bottom. I shared the cake on my facebook page, and was very surprised when the Art director of ‘’On Aura Tout Vu’’ shared my cake on his page! I felt very honoured."
