കഥകളി (Kathakali)
God’s Own Country’s own art form Kathakali makes the entire world take a double take with its grand colors and costumes. This was a theme I wished to transfer into a cake for a long time as this is something which has never been attempted before.. When the bride, Priyanka called up to order the cake for her Sangeeth night, traditional Kerala being the theme, she had two options – Kathakali or Kettuvallam… I jumped at the first chance for a Kathakali cake. This just had to be the cake sculpture of a Kathakali artist in his resplendent regalia. Right from the Kireedam (headgear) to the Pachha (green) make up to the Marmala (the heavy gold neck ornament) to the heavily plaited bulging skirt and every little detail that make up the magnificent dancer had to be captured. Apprehension put its chocking hold on me. A lot of hours spent in breakages, re-sculpting and frustration later, the miniature Kathakali artist was born. Took a few steps back and heaved a sigh of relief and contentment admiring the most difficult cake till date; but easily one of the most alluring work of art from Cake Canvas.

The Globetrotter's Cake
This pink marvel was created for the Baptism of a baby girl, who was born in Sydney five months back and has been to several parts of the world. The brief said the cake should be a tribute to the little traveller, her birth place (this is where the Kangaroos and Koala bears came into being) and the main colour theme to be in Pink. The Globe was a challenge, as was the child as I wanted to bring as much real life into the figurine.
