Birthday Cake Before & After
I volunteered to make a joint birthday cake for my parents and I. I finally decided on doing a marshmallow fondant combine (for dad), a horse (for me) and flowers (for mom). I knew it would be a bunch of randomness, but it's my second decorated cake, so it was really good to practice a bunch of different things. There were a few flaws that I wasn't happy with, but overall, the cake looked pretty good BEFORE. Day of our dinner party, I packed it up, put it in the car while loading the rest of the stuff up. When I got in the car, I checked on the cake and it was bubbling on the side and tilting. By the end of the 45 minute car ride the car had completely fell apart. My lessons - use a cake board and dowels, smaller transporting box, don't sit the cake on an angle. So sad!

Just For Fun
My first decorated cake (well, not counting when I was 10). This was just a learning cake: baking, stacking, filling, crumb coat, smoothing (I didn't use VIVA), ruffles, and quilting (I used a toothpick, so I know it could have been much better). I definitely learned a lot and had fun. It was supposed to be graduated shades of blue, but purple is fun too. Thanks for looking!
