Cake for a grandchild of a friend. He loves turtles. The blue is MMF and the lilies and lily pads are gum paste. The cake is 12" x 4" and I have learned that I really don't like doing fondant for a cake this size (and it's really not that big). Maybe I just need a lot more practice. I got my inspration for the turtle from a forum member. Thanks.
I got inspired by Peggy Porchen's rose tower cake and wanted to try it with royal icing petunias and lilies and butterflies for my granddaughter. The cake is 2 8" layers and 2 6" layers tapered up to 4" and covered with fondant.

1993 cake which I'm sure was for a birthday for someone. Lots of work on the buttercream roses. The whole cake was buttercream.
This is a cake from 1992 when I worked for a lady doctor. It was her birthday and the whole cake is done in buttercream except for the sick daisies, but she loved it.
Before I knew about gum paste and fondant I used Saran wrap which I covered with buttercream stars. The baby was purchased.

Made two mistakes for sure -- too much buttercream under the fondant and the fondant was too soft. MMF with fondant roses and gumpaste flowers and butterfly. I'm learning about fondant and since this was my own cake it wasn't too much of a disaster.
