Dragon Castle Cake
my 4 year old was very specific in his requirements: purple castle made of blocks, trees and bench around castle, fat green dragon, princess in castle and crocodiles and a shark in the moat. i managed everything but the shark. i planned so much more (like turrets, bridge etc ) but had one of those 24 hour flu bugs night before the party and this was the best i could manage - birthday boy was happy though. dragon inspired by debbie brown.

after holland won their match in the quarter finals for the world cup, i was quite inspired to make these biscuits for my son's class. its hard to see but i also put little flowers on the sleeves for the girls. the children loved seeing their names on the biscuits! mmf on sugar biscuits. sulia

Soccer Cake
I am a South African expat and feeling very depressed at not being able to be in my country during this exciting time of the soccer world cup. (my son's summer vacation starts 3 days AFTER the world cup ends!) So of course I turn to cake decorating to cheer up a bit, hence the theme of the cake. Inspiration from one of Carol Deacon's books. A quick tip for anyone interested is that the hexagon shape from a baby's shape sorter toy makes the perfect cutter for a soccer ball.

Thank You Cake
made this cake for a wonderful neighbour who has been incredibly helpful since we've relocated to the netherlands. my sugar gun broke (sob!) so i had to use my son's Play-doh extruder for the vines hence the thickness...i tried to achieve a happy, cheerful cake and not a childlike cake - hope i succeeded??

Halloween Biscuits
first time making and using rolled buttercream - it was great to use and it was really fun making these biscuits. have not attempted royal icing yet,so used the black Wilton icing in a tube for details. must remember to roll out the buttercream thinly the next time. mine was a bit too thick making the biscuit too sweet ..

Princess Sheet Cake
made this for a friend's four year old to take to school. got some bad news on that day about a good friend contracting cancer so was not quite in the mood for cake decorating. simply used pics from a party kit, covered it with contact paper and placed on the cake. then went a bit crazy with the buttercream as you can see...
