These are sugar cookies with royal icing decoration and gold dragees as hoof accents. They are decorated to look like Swedish Dala horses, which are little traditional carved wooden horses painted with similar patterns like my cookies. I made them for my neighbor who is from Sweden and she was very happy with the result! :)

Volcano Cake
This was for my son's college geology lab class end-of-semester /Christmas party. I made the volcano out of gumpaste by making a cone out of thick piece of Foamie, forming the volcano around it. I spatter painted it to make it look rocky. I rolled out and free formed orange gumpaste for the lava. I made little gumpaste rocks. The snowflakes and presents are sugar decos I bought. The orange balls were made from the lava gumpaste. I filled the volcano with a cake crumb/icing mixture and used it as spackle inside the volcano so I could place the wires inside. It isn't shown, but I squeezed buttercream into the top of the volcano and then sprinkled orange edible glitter inside to make it look like lava inside the volcano, which was a detail not lost on the students! : )

Christmas Lights Cookies
Sugar cookies cut out with a Christmas bulb cutter and decorated with a layer of royal icing, topped with sanding sugar. I piped "threads" with royal icing on the part that fits in the socket (whatever that's called!) and let them dry, then flooded some royal icing over them and let that dry. Then I painted it over with silver luster dust. When I served them, I poked holes in the bottoms and threaded black licorice strings through the holes like a string of lights and left a pair of safety scissors on the platter for people to cut away a cookie.

Christmas Tree Cookies
These are chocolate cookies with a gum paste tree adhered to them. (I tried piping trees with royal icing like in the photo I saw, but I'm afraid my hand is not steady enough.) I piped r.i. for the snow on the tree and the ground and sprinkled nonpareils on the tree. I then lightly brushed a little corn syrup on the background and sprinkled more nonpareils for falling snow. I used a gold dragee for the "star" on top of the tree.

Bumble Bee Cake
This is a cake I made for my son's end-of-year gymnastics awards banquet. It was outdoors, so I chose a "summery" theme of bumblebees and flowers. It was the first time I tried making the bees, which are gumpaste. I drew the stripes with a food coloring pen. I put a little "disco dust" on the wings, though you can't really see that in the photos. I made the royal icing grass and flower clumps on the side ahead of time and glued them on at the last minute.

Jane Austen-Themed Cake
This cake was for a Jane Austen fanatic for her birthday. I was afraid to try making a book shape, so instead I made Jane Austen's framed silhouette and an inkwell, (with a chicken feather for the quill), a hankie and some flowers out of gumpaste. I made the corner accents from royal icing. I used a real candle in the gumpaste candleholder rather than regular birthday candles. On the sides, I made plaques with quotes from one of the books. It was a huge hit with the birthday "girl".

Pommel Horse Cake
I made this pommel horse cake for my gymnast son to share with his teammates who were suitably impressed! It was really easy since the fondant came in the perfect colors for the pommel and the blue mats. The handles are gumpaste rolled and wrapped around two bendy drinking straws spliced togetherand bent at right angles. The cake was a 9X14 rectangular cake cut in half lengthwise and stacked. The boys loved it!
