Waterfall Baby Shower Cake
Made for a girl who didn't want a baby-ish baby shower cake (??) and wanted it to have something to do with a forest, a river, and dogs. This is what I came up with. She was very happy with it. If I had more time (and if I'd been getting paid) I would have added more details, plants around the pond, etc. Oh, and these were my first dog figures, and that was the most fun part of this cake!

1St Birthday Cake
Made this for my daughter's 1st birthday party. Her decorations had butterflies and flowers. I lost my brand new butterfly mold and had to improvise at the last minute. But I was pretty happy with it overall. Most importantly, my baby girl enjoyed devouring it and getting it all over her face. :)

Topsy Turvy Tea Party Cake
First ever attempt at a carved cake + topsy turvy design. For my sister's "Mad Tea Party" birthday party. MFF fondant that failed me this time - made it on a hot day, used it on a cold rainy day, and the texture was awful - kept breaking and stretching and cracking!! Did my best with it anyway, 'cause I didn't have time or money to start over. The ribbon roses have hot pink disco dust on them. My sister loved it... I was just happy it didn't fall over in the car!

Justins_Wedding_Cake.jpg
My first wedding cake attempt, for my brother's wedding. Bride chose design, and I warned her I had no experience with square cakes or with stencils! I had trouble all around - my scratch white cake would not bake tall enough, and I had to add foam core under the bottom layer to be tall enough for the stencil. The royal icing got too thin when adding black coloring, but would get too gray if I added more sugar, so it was too thin to do accurate stenciling, hence the slightly messy look. It was 90 degrees in my kitchen both days I worked on it, so everything was just a bit harder to work with. In the end, it came out decent, and the bride loved it, and the guests all complimented me on the flavor, so that's good. Oh, the bride's mother placed 3 random pink roses right on top after I set up the cake....they didn't go with the design at all in my opinion!

Bachelorette_Zebra_Cupcakes.jpg
Zebra striped cupcakes with red flowers, made for a neighbor who wanted something black, white and red but didnt' care what, for a bachelorette party. Pina coloda flavored. I love how these turned out, but I learned that zebra striping takes a lonnnnngggg time on cupcakes!

Twinkle Little Star Cake
Baby shower cake for my best friend. Raspberry Lemonade cake: alternating layers of raspberry and lemon cakes, filled with fresh lemon curd and whipped raspberry cheesecake filling, iced in vanilla SMBC, raspberry MFF. Thanks so much to HollyPJ - I saved her photo months ago just hoping I could do it justice here! My best friend absolutely loved it... I think this was my favorite cake so far!

Avas_Cake_2.jpg
"Customer" wanted primary colors (green was ok though) with some sort of flower or flowers. This is what I came up with. Covered with MFF and decorations are all MFF. This batch didn't work out as well, it got pock marks and was too stretchy. I also ran out of time to make a full bow on top so I improvised. But the mom adored it, so I guess mission accomplished!

Flip Flop Cake
Friend ordered a flip flop/summery cake for her friend's birthday. Just wanted a small chocolate cake. Flip flops are fondant and gumpaste, cake is covered in MMF (which had terrible pock marks, which is why I moved on to MFF as seen in the sports cake I made). I did a bad job of making the fondant smooth, you can see the cake or frosting bulges. Plumerias are gumpaste and were totally trial and error...watched an online tutorial and tried my best. Threw a lot of them away! But this cake was really fun to play with and she adored it when I delivered it.

Sports Birthday
This cake almost caused a panic attack. Double Chocolate Layer cake, filled with fresh fudge filling, covered in MFF. MMF and gumpaste decorations. The cake was so tasty but extremely moist and fell apart in places as I was torting... I had to refrigerate it before working more, and got great advice here on CC for how to make this recipe work next time. Inspired by a cake by tineypics on Flickr.
