I'm planning my sister a surprise graduation party for December 17th, and I am in charge of making the cake too (which I am very excited about). She's going to be a teacher (pre-K thru 4th grade), and I'm doing a book theme. I'm having everyone bring a copy of their favorite children's book to stock her classroom library, and since my 3 year old is stuck on Dr. Seuss now, and since my sister is kinda crazy and funky like me...I thought, hey... We can do a Dr. Seuss party!!! I've found all kinds of cool decoration ideas on the internet, but I'm thinking cake... I'd LOVE to do a whimsical cake, but I'm still a beginner, and I've never done one before. Do you think that is something a beginner could take on? Any ideas on what to do? How to decorate it?
I'm open to ideas!!! Thanks a million!!!
Here is an article about "how to"

That sounds like a lot of fun...I've never made a whimsical cake so I can't say but I came across this cake I thought was really cute.

The whimsical cake tutorial is really great. It might help you decide if it's something you want to do.
All great ideas!!! I've read the CC tutorial, and I'll definitely be using that for a guideline. I actually copied down that green eggs and ham cake too! It would be a fun one just to have there, but I won't use that as the BIG cake. Love the whole "characters walking up the cake" too. Very cool!!!
Any more??? Keep 'em coming!
OMGosh!! Such a great idea for a cake!! You just have to make little fondant versions of Thing 1 and Thing 2 walking/climbing up the side of the cake!!! That'd be awesome!! lol Good luck with it & keep us posted on your progess Can't wait to see the finished cake!
